The Carnelian Sparrow

For the last decade or so give or take, I’ve off-and-on been part of a Twitter RP known as “Mitakihara Original”, a story set in the Madoka Magica universe with an entirely original cast.¹ The story and worldbuilding concepts had evolved and escalated, creating new ideas to fuel a story I’ve loved ever since I started participating in the RP.

Despite my passion for the project, I’ve had a burning desire to ask myself “what would the story be like without our expanded concepts², and played more true to the Madoka world itself?” I’ve had the urge to imagine a reboot of the story for years now, and that is what this project is. An AU retelling of an RP. A fanfic of a fanfic.

Even so, this project is a creative vision I’ve been dying to bring to life for awhile now. It’s extremely rough, given I haven’t written in any kind of seriousness since I was a child. But this is also my way of practicing. I’m publishing it here just for the sake of getting over my fear and self-consciousness with regards to my own creative works.

I’ll be publishing one chapter at a time, on no set schedule (because I’m still writing it, but who knows when I’ll fall out of this mood), separated by major arcs or parts.

EDIT: While I will do my best to tell a story independent enough that one would not need to have followed/participated in the Mitakihara Original RP to understand it, having basic knowledge of the Madoka universe will help a lot. It shouldn’t be required, per se, as a lot of the content should stand on its own, but knowing the basics (girls make a wish on Kyubey, gain powers, fight Witches, but it’s not as it seems etc etc) will help a lot.
